Mockery Zero Proof

Mockery Zero Proof is a Detroit-based brand redefining what it means to celebrate, offering a curated selection of NA beverages, barware, and lifestyle products designed for mindful enjoyment. As part of Live6 Alliance’s entrepreneurship pilot program, founder Karlyta Williams approached Backtalk to further develop her brand and digital presence for the city’s growing zero-proof retail movement.

Through a blend of strategic brand development, visual design, and e-commerce consulting, we created a foundation that allows Mockery to grow from a beloved neighborhood concept into a scalable online business. The result is a modern, design-forward identity that captures the sophistication of Detroit’s evolving beverage culture, proving that alcohol-free can still be elevated, social, and full of style.

    Mockery Zero Proof needed a brand and digital strategy that reflected the rising demand for non-alcoholic lifestyle products while maintaining a sense of celebration and style. Most competitors in the alcohol-free space leaned too far into wellness or minimalism, leaving a gap for a brand that felt luxurious, expressive, and unapologetically fun. The challenge was to create a strong foundation that balanced Detroit’s local energy with the brand’s long-term e-commerce potential.

    Brand Development

    Our work began with strategic discovery and market research to define Mockery’s position within Detroit’s growing non-alcoholic beverage scene. We crafted a clear brand messaging framework that captured its “approachable luxury” tone, balancing sophistication with warmth and inclusivity—a true reflection of Karlyta. Deliverables included a refined mission and value statement, tagline development, and tone of voice guidelines that articulate Mockery’s role as a design-forward, zero-proof lifestyle brand rooted in community and celebration.

    Design

    We expanded Mockery’s visual language into a full design system, pairing bohemian textures with modern layouts and warm, feminine tones. Deliverables included logo variations, color palette refinements, typography hierarchy, and digital design templates for packaging, signage, and social media. The result is a cohesive aesthetic that balances boutique charm with upscale energy, positioning Mockery as both a Detroit design-forward retail brand and a recognizable name in the national zero-proof space.

    Web Design + Development

    To establish Mockery’s digital presence, we created a custom e-commerce website that merges storytelling with shoppable design. The site highlights product curation, brand education, and event promotions, reflecting both the aesthetic and purpose of the brand. Built for scalability, the website integrates SEO best practices, intuitive navigation, and mobile-first design, laying the groundwork for future product launches, collaborations, and content expansion.
