When Paddle + Par opened in Beverly Hills, Michigan, it was stepping into an entirely new category: part pickleball facility, part golf lounge, part modern social club. The vision was ambitious: create a space where competition and community could thrive together. To succeed, the brand needed more than courts and simulators; it needed a system strong enough to transform a facility into a destination.
Backtalk stepped in ahead of launch and has continued as an embedded marketing team ever since. From brand refinement and website development to social media, email, and content strategy, we’ve helped establish Paddle + Par as a cornerstone of Metro Detroit’s social-sport scene — where athletics meets community and brand identity becomes an experience.

The Challenge
Paddle + Par wasn’t entering an established market. It was creating one. At the time of launch, there was no local playbook for a pickleball-forward social club in Metro Detroit. Without careful positioning, the brand risked being misunderstood as “just another athletic facility” rather than the lifestyle destination it aspired to be.
The challenge was twofold: Introduce an unfamiliar concept in a way that felt intuitive and exciting, and appeal to multiple audiences at once (players, social groups, corporate events, and members) without diluting the brand.
The Strategy
We approached Paddle + Par as a lifestyle brand first, with sport as the entry point.
Backtalk helped define the brand’s positioning, refine its identity, and build the marketing systems needed to launch and sustain momentum. The strategy emphasized recognizability, repetition, and cultural relevance — ensuring Paddle + Par felt like something people wanted to be part of, not just try once. The result was early awareness, steady bookings, and rapid community adoption, positioning Paddle + Par as one of Metro Detroit’s most recognizable social destinations.
Brand Development
We strengthened Paddle + Par’s brand foundation by expanding its identity into a cohesive, flexible system that could live across digital and physical touchpoints.
This included refining the logo, color palette, and typography to feel modern, athletic, and community-forward, while shaping a brand voice that balanced sleekness with playfulness and a hint of nostalgia. Through branded content series, repeatable storytelling formats, and a strong tagline system, we built consistency and equity from day one, giving the brand room to evolve without losing its center.
Brand Photoshoot
In collaboration with Oliver Owen, we produced Paddle + Par’s official brand launch shoot.
The shoot captured the full experience — gameplay, food and beverage, social energy — and established a versatile visual library for web, social, and marketing campaigns. The focus wasn’t just action, but atmosphere: how it feels to spend time there.
Web Design + Development
Working alongside Anchor DBC, we shaped Paddle + Par’s digital home on WordPress.
Backtalk led content strategy, copywriting, and design refinements to ensure the site reflected the brand’s identity and lifestyle positioning, while Anchor handled development. The result is a polished, functional platform that clearly communicates what Paddle + Par is and invites people to participate.
Social Media + Content Creation
Social strategy focused on showing Paddle + Par as active, social, and welcoming, not overly produced or overly promotional.
Backtalk led strategy, content planning, design, copywriting, and full account management, collaborating with Good Move for photo and video production. Content emphasized real moments, community energy, and repeatable formats that allowed the brand to stay visible and relevant without burning out.
Influencer Marketing
Influencer and partnership activations were designed to extend reach while reinforcing credibility.
Rather than chasing volume, collaborations focused on alignment and shared energy, from local creators to event-based partnerships. Backtalk supported ideation, branded promotions, and coordination with key partners to ensure each activation felt intentional and on-brand.
Email Marketing
We designed and managed branded email campaigns to support events, food and beverage programming, and membership growth to keep Paddle + Par top of mind. The primary strategy focus was to consistently reinforce the club’s role as a social hub, not just a place to play.
Digital Advertising
Paid Meta campaigns were built and optimized to drive awareness, bookings, and membership sign-ups. Campaigns reinforced Paddle + Par’s dual identity as both a sports facility and a social destination, meeting audiences where they were and inviting them into the experience.
Project Notes
Paddle + Par reinforced what it takes to launch a new category. Without an existing frame of reference, the work required translating an unfamiliar concept into something immediately recognizable and desirable across brand, content, and activation. Momentum was built through consistency, repetition, and storytelling that evolved alongside the community’s adoption of the space.
The takeaway was clear: strong foundational identity paired with nimble, ongoing storytelling turns curiosity into culture, and a concept into a destination.
